Our Story.

Bringing Faith, Hope and Community to Olathe Since 1960.

Redeemer Lutheran Church has been a cornerstone of faith and community in Olathe, Kansas, for over six decades. Our congregation was founded under the leadership of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Kansas District Board of Missions in 1959. By 1960, 14 lots were purchased at Dennis Avenue and Alta Lane, marking the beginning of a congregation dedicated to bringing the “lost” to their Redeemer.

In March 1961, Reverend Warren Naegele accepted the call to establish our church, and the first service was held in June at Central Grade School. Within a year, the congregation grew to 82 charter members, demonstrating the deep need for a welcoming faith community in Olathe. Preliminary plans for a permanent building began in 1962, and by 1963, the groundbreaking ceremony was held on our current property. The first unit, completed and dedicated in 1964, served as our education wing with classrooms upstairs and a youth center in the basement.

Over the years, Redeemer Lutheran Church continued to expand. A new sanctuary, fellowship hall, kitchen, and office space were completed in 1983, reflecting the growth of the congregation and the increasing demand for spiritual and community programs. In the 1990s and early 2000s, additional renovations, including a new educational/administrative addition and sanctuary updates, were completed to modernize the facility and accommodate growing programs. Redeemer Lutheran Preschool, completed in 2006, now serves countless children and families each year, demonstrating our commitment to nurturing faith from the earliest ages.

Redeemer Lutheran Church and Preschool is more than a building. We are a living, breathing community of believers committed to serving God and each other. Our mission focuses on worship, education, and outreach. From weekly Sunday services and Bible studies to Vacation Bible School and youth programs, we offer opportunities for spiritual growth and connection at every stage of life. Community service and charitable initiatives are also central to our purpose, ensuring that the love of Christ reaches beyond the walls of our church.

Through every season of growth, challenge, and transformation, Redeemer Lutheran Church and Preschool remains dedicated to nurturing faith, fostering community, and creating a place where every individual can experience the love and grace of God. Whether you are new to the area, exploring faith, or seeking a church home, we invite you to join our congregation and be part of a story of worship, learning, and service that continues to grow stronger with each passing year.
